Ray & Jeanne Gilles started their family-owned business, Ray’s Auto & Truck Service, from their Avon home in 1979 with son Mike. The Gilles’ success enabled a move to their current state-of-the-art facility on Colorado Avenue in 1988. In 2000, a large truck shop was added to better service commercial fleets and heavy trucks. As a result of their commitment to quality and customer service, an expansion of their truck shop was completed in August 2008. They service all makes and models of cars, trucks, heavy equipment, emergency vehicles, tractors and buses. Rays specializes in commercial fleet maintenance for businesses of all sizes in all Northern Ohio. And their automotive business is proud to serve some families in the area now going on three generations. Avon has grown significantly since they started the business in 1979 and they have adapted and welcomed new customers as Avon continues to grow and thrive.
Ray Gilles has been working on vehicles since he was a teenager and has learned from his many years of hands-on experience as automotive technology has evolved. As the company President and namesake of the business, he is the main contact for the business and works closely with his employees, customers, vendors, and associates. He is also the primary field technician where he prefers to work directly with customers and performing repairs and maintenance. He travels to many of the commercial customers in the area to provide services on site, as well as responding to motorists and truck drivers on the road with emergency repairs.
Mike Gilles, Ray’s son, graduated from Avon High School and the Lorian County JVS Automotive Technology Program in 1985. As the company Vice President, Mike manages the day-to-day operations of the Avon Ohio location. In addition to his administrative duties, you will find him out in the shop most days working alongside their technicians and service advisors, helping to diagnose vehicles, coordinating work with their larger commercial fleet customers, or training the younger technicians they employ through the Lorain County JVS Work Program. Mike is a Master ASE Automotive Technician and a Master Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Technician as well as several other certifications.
Ray and Mike Gilles’ decades worth of experience, in addition to that of their many skilled technicians and service professionals, has made Ray’s Auto and Truck Service a trusted shop for automotive and commercial customers throughout Lorain County and beyond for over 40 years. They are known for tackling challenging work that many will not attempt and trying to find common sense solutions for their customers. Ray’s Auto prides itself on doing what needs to be done to help customers maintain and repair their vehicles so that they operate safely, without overselling work that might not be needed or can be postponed to help their customers budget repairs over time.
